Summer 2025 News and Notes

Greetings Friends and family, alt text = Eve wearing Flames gear and standing with Goldy Gopher
This is an update of my life since last Christmas when our Newman relatives whom we hadn’t seen for years came to our house. It was wonderful sitting around the table eating and sharing stories. Star could not come, but we got to dance with her at sunset at the Drum Circle in February.
We’ve had so much fun with my niece Molly Jean who turned one this year! Since my stepfather Cliff’s health is better, we had a reunion at Dan’s cabin with the Yentes family. Everyone loved it and Cliff gave a beautiful prayer. My niece Katarina graduated from high school! My mom and I got see her perform in her last ice show; she has come so far and will keep skating in college.
I have a new health and wellness spa area in my apartment to keep fit, meditate and do yoga stretching. This helps me focus better and loosen tension that’s important for athletes. My Special Olympics sports are track and field, unified golf with my partner Katie, and bowling. At the State Meet, I earned three medals and got to meet the famous Goldy Gopher. Next year, I get to compete at Nationals, which will be in Minnesota. I’m extremely excited and I plan to train smart and hard. Some of my SOMN Roseville Flames team mates also made Team Minnesota.
Centennial church also has a Flames group. We have been busy doing service projects, bowling and learning more about the Bible and faith. I got to teach a class about Michelangelo, who painted the Sistine Chapel and was a famous sculpturer. We all made small sculptures.
Speaking of art, I submitted a painting to the international juried show at Courage Kenny Rehabilitation. I was happy to see it hanging when my art mentor Cami and I went to the Gala. I write poetry now and submitted a poem called Sun for the Saint Paul Saints Baseball Team Poetry Garden. It was displayed on opening night. To go along with that my Sun mask is hanging on the entry wall at InterAct Center for Artists with Disabilities.

I’m also proudly displaying my healing journey from when I was five until now, at Courage Kenny in Stillwater until October. My submission to the Minnesota State Fair did not get in, but that allowed me to be part of the Rejected Show at the Burl Gallery in Lowertown St Paul. Finally, my art will hang at Lowertown Lofts Artists’ Co-op 40th Anniversary during the Art Crawl. I often took part in their Art Crawls during the years my sister Star lived there.

I need to get busy with this unfinished painting. It is part of my series of 10 x 10 nature paintings on wood. I will update you late Fall. You may get to see poetry I have been writing and short stories from animals’ perspectives on their lives! As always, I’m working on my Angels and Snowmen Cards which will show up here soon!
